We’re sharing some of our favourite places to drink a cocktail or two in Cornwall. Whether your holidaying or a local there’s plenty of great bars on your doorstep. There’s so many to choose from, so here’s just a selection.
The Alba A Bar is a modern, stylish and contemporary cocktail lounge on the harbour front in St Ives. They serve an extensive range of top quality cocktails, together with a tasty offering of tapas style nibbles to accompany your drink. Unlike the first floor restaurant there’s no need to book a table, and coffee and cocktails are served al day from 12:00pm. We recommend “The Last Days of Pisco”, a gorgeous Pisco and Chartreuse cocktails that’s definitely worth the £10 price tag.
The Cornish Barn is a smokehouse, bar and restaurant on the historic Chapel Street in Penzance. They serve a small, but tasty range of cocktails but the real selling point is their beautifully stylish and cosy lounge with a large wood-burning fire. It’s a great spot for a rainy afternoon or a cold winter’s night. We particularly like the “Gin Cup”, simply but delicious.
The beautiful hotel has a wonderful terrace over looking the Carrack Roads on the River Fal. Situated on the edge of the quaint Cornish village of St Mawes Hotel Transanton serves gorgeous cocktails with fresh ingredients and quality spirits. Head there for an early evening cocktail in the summer and enjoy watching the sun go down.
From May to September the Porthmeor Beach Cafe has an open air cocktail bar with panoramic views across Porthmeor Beach. The cocktail menu is fresh and innovative, focusing on classic cocktails with a twist. Enjoy a cocktail with some of their wonderful tapas dishes, or simply pull up a stool and enjoy your drink with a view. We’d recommend the “Dillusion”, a gin and elderflower cocktail with a dill garnish.
Having recently been refurbished by a new owner The Vault Bar has been given a new lease of life. The bar has a great atmosphere with DJ’s playing on Friday and Saturday nights and a sun-trap decking area out the back that’s always packed during the summer months. We’d recommend their delicious “Bakewell Sours”, and they also do a great “Cosmopolitan”.
Bear Bar & Cafe is a relaxed apres surf hangout, located at Ocean Surf Lodge in Newquay. Just a stones throw away from Fistral Beach. They do great coffee and cocktails which can be enjoyed on their sunny terrace. They have a great offer right now or 2-for-1 cocktails on Thursdays and Sundays, the perfect time to try their “Aviation” cocktail.
Situated in the heart of Cornwall’s capital, Truro, The Old Grammar School is well known by locals for its great atmosphere and excellent cocktails. Drinks are served all day until late and we’d recommend trying the “Wild Berry Margarita”.
Situated in the heart of St Ives, on the Wharf overlooking the harbour, The Rum and Crab Shack has a selection of over 30 different rums. As you can imagine there’s every rum based cocktail you could want, so if you like rum you’ll probably like them all, but we particularly like the Rum Punch.
The Beach Hotel is a beachside boutique hotel overlooking Summerleaze Beach in Bude. In their Beach Bar they serve delicious cocktails with views over the beach. there’s usually a buzzing atmosphere in the bar and terrace. The Beach Bar cocktail menu has a unique selection of signature blends and delicious classics. We’d recommend the “Mr Tumnel Tipple” a rose cocktail with vodka, Hendricks and vermouth.
