The cobbled streets of St Ives offer so many wonderful culinary delights that we’ll admit, this list was hard to make. You’re spoilt for choice with great such great offerings that are made even better by the laid back seaside atmosphere of the town, and scenic views across the harbour and beaches. So for those that are struggling to decide where to eat, or just want to try somewhere new we thought we’d share the our top 5 favourite restaurants in St Ives:
The Mex – Mexican
The Mex is a wonderful restaurant that serves an excellent range of Mexican themed dishes. Vegetarians, vegans and those on special diets are well catered for and they even have a children’s menu. All of their food is cooked fresh to order and served as you like it. Their chefs are entirely flexible – so if you’re a little shy of spicy food speak up, they’re happy to accommodate. Or if you want your dish extra hot, why not add a little more heat?
Porthmeor Beach Cafe – Tapas
Porthmeor Beach Café is overlooks the beautiful blue flag beach, Porthmeor. With a buzzing atmosphere, alfresco dining and imaginative cocktails they serve a great selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We particularly recommend ordering a selection of tapas enjoyed in one of their cosy heated booths.
The Searoom – Fish & Seafood
This award-winning St Ives restaurant is a family run business that serves up fresh, cooked from scratch dishes using local produce – they’re so good you’ll want to keep them your own little St Ives secret. Originally a cafe called The Tearoom, they became so popular that they starting serving dinner. They are now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and almost everything on the menu is available gluten free. Best of all they have a great little outdoor seating area that looks over the harbour.
Blas Burgerworks – Burgers
Tucked away on the Warren you’ll find Blas Burgerworks, a wonderful little joint that makes delicious burgers using local Cornish meat, that’s naturally reared, free range and cooked on a chargrill. They offer gluten free buns, as well as a great selection of vegetarian and vegan burger options. Not only do they cater for burger-lovers everywhere they also have a great ethos. They’re going as far as they possibly can to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, from the ingredients they buy to the cleaning products they use.
The Alba Restaurant – Fine Dining
Alba one of St Ives’s top fine dining establishments specialising in local produce, line-caught fish and seasonal vegetables. The menu is designed by award winning chef and proprietor Grant Nethercott and showcases natural, eclectic flavour combinations. Although the dishes have been influenced by French cuisine, Nethercott classes the food at Alba as modern British style. The seascape views and stylish decor create a great atmosphere that makes your dining experience even more special.

Cornwall is very vegan friendly, so here are just some of our favourite vegan friendly restaurants, cafes and places to eat.
St Ives Penzance’s guide to vegan friendly restaurants in Cornwall. All the best vegan friendly places to eat, including vegan friendly cafes inCornwall. Each establishment serves great vegan food or is always happy to adapt existing dishes to make them vegan. These come from personal experience or recommendations.
One of our favourite vegan friendly cafés in Cornwall, Archie Browns is a vegetarian cafe and health food shop serves a variety of fresh, wholesome, homemade meal. Their menu includes a vegan breakfast, salads, soups and sandwiches alongside some wonderful specials such as falafel pattie and a mixed bean and roast pepper burger. As well as dairy free milk they stock soy yoghurt and vegan butter. They also have a great selection of juices and smoothies. Opening times: Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm (4pm in Truro).
The Granary is a vegetarian whole food store situated in the centre of Penzance on Causeway Head. They stock a great selection of health foods but it’s the deli counter that we really recommend. As well as selling fresh, local bread they have delicious and unique fresh salads, sandwiches, soup and savouries alongside some vegan sweet treats. Opening times: Monday-Saturday 9am-5:30am.
This bustling vegan friendly café is a favourite amongst Penzance locals. As such, it’s usually pretty packed on weekends so be sure to book if you’re headed there during peak times (call 01736 368686). They offer a wonderful selection of homemade delights including vegan soups and curries. The Honey Pot always have a minimum of three veggie specials, and they always have a at least a couple of vegan offerings. They also stock vegan butter and milk. Opening times: Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm with lunch served from 12pm.
Coco Loco is a wonderful Mexican restaurant, one of Penzance’s most popular vegan friendly restaurants Cornwall that caters to a variety of dietary requirements. Because it gets so busy it’s best to book in advance (call 01736 363091). They have a large variety of veggie options such as nachos, fajitas and quesadillas as well as stocking vegan cheese and sour cream (just ask, it’s not on the menu). Opening times: Tuesday-Saturday 5:30pm-9:30pm.
Cosily situated on Alverton Road, The Alverne serves a Mediterranean inspired menu alongside tapas dishes and actually has a completely separate vegan menu (just ask, it’s not advertised). Opening Times Monday-Saturday 9am-9pm.
Ricardos is a great vegan friendly restaurant, but we personally we recommend the takeaway. Their bases and pizza sauce are vegan and they have an excellent selection of vegetarian pizzas (or you can make your own). Just ask for no cheese or bring your own vegan cheese along and they’ll put it on your pizza for you. Call 01736 364098 and 01736 366353 to order. Opening times: Monday-Sunday 5:30pm-11pm.
Lavenders is a wonderful vegan friendly bakery in the heart of Penzance on Alverton Street. If you’re craving a perfect Cornish pasty or you just need a quick lunch on the go, try their vegan pasty. Opening times: Monday-Saturday 9am-6pm.
This warm and welcoming Cornish cafe is very vegetarian and vegan friendly. They are happy to adapt dishes to suit a vegan diet and can offer a vegan cooked breakfast. Call 01736 872753 to book. Opening times: Wednesday-Sunday 10am-4pm.
Wilderbeest Cafe is a wonderful little cafe in the centre of Falmouth that is entirely vegan! The flavoursome and exciting menu is full of Asian influences with dishes like hoisin seitan cucumber rolls, and raw pad thai but they also have lovely sweet treats like warm chocolate and almond brownie and lemon and blueberry raw cheesecake. They also offer several gluten-free options. Find their menu here. Call 01326 210602 to book. Opening times: Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 5:30pm-9pm.
The Bean Inn is a vegetarian restaurant in Carbis Bay near St Ives, Cornwall. They offer an excellent range of vegan food and list vegan alternatives on their menu. You can find a sample of their menu here. To book call 01736 795 918. They are open from 5:30pm-10:30pm but they are closed until February 11th and their opening days vary. Check their Facebook page for opening times.
Blas Burgerworks is a gourmet burger joint in St Ives, Cornwall whose ethos revolves around sustainability and minimising their impact on the environment. They have five vegetarian options, two of which are vegan; the black bean and beetroot burger and the chargrilled corn salsa and guac burger. Find their full menu here, takeaway is offered at a 10% discount. They only take reservations for groups of six or more. Call 01736 797 272 to book.
With a laid back atmosphere and flavoursome Mexican food The Mex is a popular spot in St Ives, Cornwall. They have a range of veggie options and are very vegan friendly. You can’t beat the location of this wonderful restaurant and the excellent Cornish food certainly matches up. Many of the meals are already meat and dairy free but they are also happy to adapt their dishes to suit a vegan diet. Find the full menu here. Call 01736 799874 to book. Opening times: Monday-Sunday, all day long serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Cornish Deli and Cafe offers a great selection of Cornish local products and serves fresh homemade food in its cafe. Most of the soups served are vegan and there’s plenty of vegan fillings for the baguettes and they are happy to accommodate vegan dietary requirements. Call 01736 795100 to book.
Peak Souk is a vegetarian cafe in the heart of Falmouth offering a great selection of vegan food such as burgers, soups and nachos. Evenings are by advanced booking only. Call 01326 317583. Opening times: Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm.
It’s very exciting that Truro Lounge, located on Princes Street, has an entirely vegan menu! This is a really great spot if you’re with a group with all different dietary requirements, since they serve meat, vegetarian meals, vegan meals and also have a gluten free menu. Call 01872 264378 to book. Opening times: Monday-Sunday 8am-11pm.
The Cornish Vegan is a vegan friendly cafe in Cornwall that serves delicious homemade vegan comfort food. Find their vegan friendly menu here. On the last Sunday of every month 10am-3pm; serving vegan roast dinners. Call 01872 271 540 to book. Opening times: Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm.
