St Ives Penzance shares the best restaurants
and places to eat in Newlyn
Newlyn is bustling
fishing village just outside of Penzance. The village is quickly becoming a gem
in Cornwall’s culinary scene with a growing number of great quality restaurants
and cafes. Discover the best places to eat in Newlyn with our foodie guide
Tolcarne Inn is a historic maritime pub, nestled in the heart of Newlyn near
is over 300 years old and has been beautiful renovated with wood burners and
exposed granite and the outside space is a sheltered suntrap during the summer months.
Chef Ben Tunnicliffe has created a seasonal menu that showcases the freshest
fish with dishes such as homemade
fishcakes with spring greens and poached egg, and roast monkfish and squash caponata with polenta, as well as serving
an excellent Sunday Lunch.
Main courses range from £13 – 21. They have vegetarian options and are happy to adapt dishes for specific dietary. They’re open every day from 11:30am – late serving real ales, local ciders, refreshments, coffee and homemade cakes.
Lovetts is a very new addition to Newlyn but is fast becoming one of the villages’ most popular spots. They focus on low intervention wines, single origin coffee, craft beer and artisan spirits. In the morning, they serve great coffee with cakes and a few simples breakfast dishes. In the evening, they serve an excellent range of wines and a small but carefully chosen selection of spirits and beers with a selection of tasty homemade small plates.
vegetarian options and excellent service. Just remember this is a wine bar with
snacks as opposed to a restaurant with a full dinner service. The establishment
is small and cosy, but this makes it difficult to enter for wheelchair users
and prams. They are open Tuesday – Saturday from 8am – 12 noon for breakfast and
5pm – 10pm for drinks.
Sky is a small seafood bar serving fresh fish tapas and is one of Newlyn’s most
popular restaurants. We recommend their homemade crab nachos and their
crispy sole fillets in katsu curry sauce. Their fish and seafood is extremely
fresh, but of course, their menu is not suitable for vegetarians.
dishes range from £7 – £9.50 and sides are £3.50. They are open every day in
during the high season, serving lunch 12 – 3pm and dinner 6 – 9pm. They do not
take bookings. They are also very small and get busy very quickly, so we
recommend arriving early.
restaurant at Newlyn Filmhouse is a spacious café and bar situated in the heart
of Newlyn. Their chefs create fish, meat and vegetarian dishes made from fresh
local produce daily. They also hold regular world food nights and specially
vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options available and are dog friendly. The open
for homemade cake and Monmouth coffee every morning from 10:30am and serve
lunch from 12 noon – 4:30pm, dinner from 4:30pm – 8:30pm.
Street Café a small, family run café, positioned right in the heart of Newlyn. They
offer hearty breakfasts, delicious lunches and freshly baked cakes and
afternoon tea using local produce. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, and
there’s a car park just outside.
They are open 7 days a week; Monday – Saturday from 9am till 4pm and Sunday from 10:30 – 12 noon.
Newlyn Art Gallery Café
Enjoy beautiful views across Mount’s Bay in Newlyn Art Gallery’s café. The Studio Cafe is now for the summer serving coffees, teas, soft drinks, wine, gin and tonics, along with a selection of cakes and pastries from 10.30am – 3.30pm.
