Porthmeor Beach

Blue Flag Beach in St Ives

Porthmeor is arguably one of Cornwall’s most beautiful blue flag beaches. Unlike the sheltered Porthminster Beach, another one of St Ives’ popular spots, Porthmeor faces the Atlantic Ocean. The sometimes-bracing winds makes it a very popular spot for surfers. It’s an excellent family beach with all the facilities you’d expect including the Porthmeor Beach Café, Bar and Surf School and a seasonal lifeguard service. Parking is very difficult in St Ives during the summer so we’d recommend taking public transport if possible and arriving early to secure a spot. The St Ives branch line takes a beautifully scenic route from St Erth, through Lelant and Carbis Bay.
Please note: There is a seasonal dog ban on this beach and many others in Cornwall. Dogs are welcome to go on the beach except between Easter Sunday and 30th September when a dog ban is in place.
